W.A. Smith Financial Group

Since 2017, W.A. Smith Financial Group has been a driving force behind the Make-A-Wish mission, transforming community support into life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

Through signature events like their annual golf outing and gala, the company—alongside its employees, clients, and supporters—has raised over $1 million, helping grant more than 100 wishes for local children.

“While most all charitable organizations do meaningful things, we immediately saw the impact that we could make for the Make-A-Wish kids and their families,” said W.A. Smith. “The decision to support Make-A-Wish as our exclusive charitable partner was born out of a passionate desire to help kids in need that not only our entire teams shares, but our client base and our fundraiser supporters share, too.”

What began as a partnership has evolved into a mission—one that unites a company, a community, and countless wish families through the simple, powerful act of giving hope.

The Brandenburg Family

For the Brandenburg Family, giving back isn’t just something they do—it’s who they are. Driven by a shared commitment to uplifting others, they’ve made Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana a cornerstone of their philanthropy.

Through generous personal and corporate donations, auction item contributions, hosting unforgettable wish reveals and send-off parties, and volunteering as wish granters, the Brandenburg’s are helping turn hope into reality—one wish at a time.

“Your first wish as a volunteer is hard to forget in all the best ways,” said Matt Brandenburg. “There is an inherent expectation and excitement in being a part of a moment of joy for this child going through it. My wish kid, Julius (who wished for a trip to Hawaii), showed me that what we’re giving is incredibly impactful for the wish families, but what we’re receiving in return – purpose, fulfillment, and perspective – changes both wish kids and wish granters for life. As much as this mission needs financial backing, an endless list of wish kids are waiting for their moment. I encourage everyone to get involved at the volunteer level, specifically as a wish granter, so you too can witness the power of a wish.”

The Faruqui Family

In 2022, 9-year-old Soraya Faruqui’s wish to go to Hawaii was granted by Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana. Facing the heartbreaking reality that Soraya may not live as long as her two sisters, the Faruqui family made a bold choice—to fully embrace life.

Their wish experience became a turning point, inspiring them to “suck the joy out of life” and encourage others to do the same.

What began as a moment of respite became a lifelong mission. Soraya and her family have since become powerful advocates for Make-A-Wish, using their voice, story, and growing Instagram community to share hope and raise awareness. By speaking at fundraising events and leveraging their platform, the Faruquis have helped raise enough to fund more than 50 life-changing wishes for other children facing critical illnesses.

“You may think a wish is a one-time gift, but it’s not,” reflected Soraya’s mom, Tasha. “Please realize – from a family that’s gone through this – that it impacts them as they’re preparing for the [wish] and it impacts them every day after. A wish is a pause; a time to pivot. And a wish is an opportunity. It really pushes a family to put things into perspective.”

Tom Williams

Fifteen years ago, Tom Williams was introduced to Make-A-Wish through a close friend—but it was witnessing the impact of a wish in action that truly moved him.

He saw firsthand how a single wish can transform not only the life of a child battling a critical illness, but also uplift their families and entire communities.

“There is something truly special about bringing hope and joy to a child facing a critical illness,” said Tom. “The power of a wish goes beyond a moment—it creates lasting memories, strength, and a reminder that they are not alone.”

As Chairman and CEO of Parker Hannifin, Tom championed Make-A-Wish by encouraging corporate support and employee involvement in wish granting. His commitment didn’t stop there. Today, as a dedicated member of the Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana Governing Board, Tom helps shape the chapter’s strategic vision for growth and impact. Through his personal giving and the generosity of his family foundation, Tom has funded more than 75 life-changing wishes—and counting.

“It is an honor to be part of something so meaningful.”
